How to Prepare for Your Professional Headshot with KEH Photos
At KEH Photos LLC, we believe that your headshot should be more than just a photo, it should capture your confidence, personality, and professionalism. That’s why we encourage a little thoughtful preparation ahead of your session. A great headshot doesn’t start the moment the camera clicks, it begins a few days before with how you take care of yourself.
Here are our best tips to help you show up looking and feeling your absolute best:
Start Your Prep a Few Days in Advance
Hydrate + Rest
Your skin will thank you! Staying well-hydrated and getting plenty of sleep (especially the two nights before your shoot) can help reduce puffiness and dark circles, making you look refreshed and vibrant.Watch the Salt
A diet low in sodium a few days ahead of your session can help minimize facial puffiness, especially around the eyes.
Hair + Skin Tips for Camera-Ready Confidence
Hair Color
Avoid coloring your hair the same week as your shoot—fresh color can look too sharp or unnatural on camera. A week out is the sweet spot.Styling
A professional style or blowout the day before (or morning of) is a great way to feel polished—as long as it’s with a trusted stylist who knows your hair well.Facials or Skincare Treatments
Want that extra glow? Treat yourself to a facial 3–5 days before your session. Just be sure to visit a trusted esthetician to avoid unexpected reactions.Regarding that “extra glow” - avoid make-up that adds shine, we use strobe lighting which will emphasize those shiny areas. It’s better to go with a matte type of make-up, which will cause you to “glow” naturally.
Grooming Details
Trim any unruly nose, ear, or facial hairs. Eyebrows, beards, and sideburns should be clean and shaped. These little details make a big difference in close-up shots. Short tip: if you like to smile big make sure to floss:)
Clothing That Works On Camera
Bring Clean, Pressed Options
Choose clothing that fits well and flatters you. Solid, neutral, or rich tones work beautifully. Avoid busy patterns, neon colors, and anything that wrinkles easily.Think Neckline + Structure
A tailored jacket, collared shirt, or simple top that frames your face can elevate your look.Don’t Forget the Details
A lint roller and backup outfit can come in handy! Accessories should be minimal unless they’re part of your brand.
Day-of Tips: Keep It Simple + Relaxed
Avoid Trying Anything New
Now’s not the time for a brand-new makeup routine or unfamiliar skincare. Stick with what you know works for your skin and style.Bring Touch-Up Items
Lip balm, powder, a brush or comb, and maybe a water bottle—these little things help keep you feeling fresh and camera-ready.Relax and Be Yourself
We’ll guide you through every step of the session, helping you feel confident and natural. The best headshots happen when you feel good—and that shows in the photos.
